Improvenet recently published an article “10 Easy DIYs That Will Instantly Upgrade Your Home.” It includes some great tips on how to improve the appearance of your property with very low cost quick projects you can do yourself. Its a great article to refer back to before you put any house on the market.
I’m adding two of my own upgrades that you can also do yourself for very little money. Both have proven to be big value adds for me:
This works best on dividers or small sections of wall that might otherwise look a little out of place or empty. At the left is an example of using 1 1/4″ cabinet trim to turn a room divider into an interesting focal point. I also used it on the bottom of a header that connects this section of wall to an identical section on the other side of the room (this was what was left after removing a wall between 2 rooms).
I wish I had a before picture to show you of the kitchen wall between the counter-top and cabinets. It was a plain beige color and made the older formica counter-tops stand out (and show their age). For a few hundred bucks the look of the kitchen was completely changed by adding a stone back-splash. I also spent another hundred or so replacing the kitchen cabinet handles. Getting rid of the gold dated handles resulted in a major transition.
